Statement of Purpose

The purpose of this organization shall be to glorify God in all that is promoted and accomplished, in accordance with His truth. This sports program is an opportunity to develop and encourage Godly character and positive interpersonal relationships through athletic training and scholastic level competition. In order to provide our sons and daughters with Varsity/JV/Middle School-level experience and competition in team sports, along with growth in physical ability and moral character, TEACH has determined to establish a sports program to provide leadership by example. We have determined to select a coaching staff made up of Christian men and women of good report.

Dear Parents:
We were privileged to minister to 106 athletes in the 2008/2009 school year. We are a volunteer organization created to give parents the support they need so their children can play organized sports. I want to thank all of the parents who made this program possible this year. If parents do not get involved in their child's sport, then the program dies and the homeschool community suffers.

Many dedicated parents have helped to build a respected reputation in the sports community, have graduated their children, and have even volunteered beyond those years. We know there are parents out there who are of the same caliber and who have the same enthusiasm for their children's sports.

We need you parents to take a step of faith and get involved in the future of homeschool sports, as well as the other programs that T.E.A.C.H. offers the homeschool community. We supply parents with the tools they need - equipment, uniforms, venues, know-how. But, ultimately, this is part of your homeschool curriculum, and you are responsible for filling positions.

The homeschool phenomenon is changing; however, where else can homeschoolers go for sports? Is it worth it to you that your child become physically strong and learn to work well in a team effort? This is a vital tool they will use throughout their future community life. Will you take the time to show them you can be a part of a team, too?

Sincerely,

Gary Hardison
T.E.A.C.H. Board President

Volleyball team ranks with public schools for first time in homeschool sport history

Soccer team wins homeschool nationals

In 2000/2001, BEACH helped form the Eastern Virginia Athletic Conference, which consisted of five small to mid-size Christian schools and BEACH Homeschool Sports.

On December 30, 2005, in the middle of our basketball season, EVAC wrote homeschool teams out of their bylaws (see below.) We lost 10 potential games for each team in each sport in each season.

For our first 20 years, and still to this date, there are conferences in Tidewater that don't understand the dynamics of homeschooling and the history of homeschool sports. They continue to cast doubt on our policies and our accomplishments
and will not consider homeschool teams for membership. We struggle on with the daily challenge of getting enough games for our teams and hope that our TEACH/BEACH Complex will be the beginning of an eventual acceptance of homeschoolers into one or more local conferences. They base their assumptions on our academics which has been proven to be exemplary as per the three articles listed on our home page. The building and the curriculum and the teachers in the building don't make the difference. It is the resolve of the families that make the difference.
We don't expect them to understand this for some time to come. We do, however, appreciate the schools that support us every season with games outside of their conference games. They certainly have no other reason to do so other than good will.

A step back for Homeschool Sports! EVAC schools use homeschoolers on their teams,
but will not compete against homeschool teams!
