The purpose of this organization shall be to glorify God in all that is promoted and accomplished, in accordance with His truth. This sports program is an opportunity to develop and encourage Godly character and positive interpersonal relationships through athletic training and scholastic level competition. In order to provide our sons and daughters with Varsity/JV/Middle School-level experience and competition in team sports, along with growth in physical ability and moral character, TEACH has determined to establish a sports program to provide leadership by example. Coaches and Players
If you are a homeschooling parent who has the experience needed to coach, and the desire to provide an opportunity for other homeschoolers to play ball, please email johnvlk@gmail.com in plenty of time for the season by:
June for Fall - Boys Soccer and Girls Volleyball
September for Winter - Cheerleading, Boys/Girls Basketball
January for Spring - Girls Soccer, Girls Softball, Boys Baseball
Each year, it seems like, as the sports come around, we are looking for coaches, and always trying to pull things together to field a competitive team. I would love to see things change in the future. So, I would like to begin to accomplish that:
1. If you think that you might like to coach one of our teams in the future, please, let me know now. This way we can start the process rolling today and already have everything in place, prior to the season starting.
2. If you are of age to play for the Breakers, and know now that you have a sport you are interested in, I would like to start a database of players for each sport. This way, as we have coaches in place, they can get in touch with you as early as possible.
If you fall into either of these categories, please email me with your information and we will get things rolling as soon as possible.
The Beach Breakers Homeschool Sports for all ages
What is Beach Breakers?
The Beach Breakers is a home school sports league, which competes interscholastically within the Hampton Roads area. Our goal each year is to have a middle school team, a junior varsity team and a varsity team for each of the sports we compete in. Our spring sports, which we are beginning to form teams for now, are Girls soccer, Girls softball, and Boys baseball, with games beginning in March and running through May. Our fall sports consist of Boys soccer and Girls volleyball. We generally begin player evaluations in June with games starting in August. During the winter, we have a great time competing in Boys and Girls basketball. Evaluations for baskteball begin in September with games starting in November and running through February. Cheerleading is also offered during the winter months. They start their preseason and evaluation in April and work through the summer. This sums up a year with the Beach Breakers. But Wait There’s More
The Breakers have something for everyone. There is a division that operates under the Breakers. It is a group called Beach Junior Athletics or Beach JA. Beach JA is an instructional, intramural group that ranges in age from tots, 2-4 year olds, all the way up to 16. In the Spring, we have Baseball and Girls Softball. The baseball includes Tee-ball for the younger kids, coach pitch for the 7-9 age group up, and fast pitch for theoldest age group. In the fall, we have soccer, which is our largest sport, averaging about 300 kids. After soccer, we have a brief flag football season with cheerleading. Then in the winter, we begin basketball and cheerleading in January. Our teams break down according to how many players we have for the year. Each season we try to offer a 5-7 age group, an 8-9 group, a 10-11 and a 12-16 group. We work hard to set up our teams so that families, no matter the size, all practice on the same night each week. All of our games are played on Saturday Mornings. This way families only have to be concerned with one day for games.
So Where should I Play? Breakers or JA?
The answer to that question, lies in what you determine you want. If you are looking for a more competitive league, then you will want to play for the Beach Breakers, just as you would if you were in Middle School or High School. You will have to decide what fits best in your lifestyle. If you decide that a competitive team is for you, then you will have to ask if you are ready to make the commitment that comes with playing for the Breakers. Beach JA practices one day a week, and has their games on Saturday Mornings. The Beach Breakers on the other hand will usually practice between three and five days a week. The Breakers games can be anywhere from one to three games a week. When you make a commitment to play for the Breakers, it is three to four month commitment. A commitment that is made by you and requires time and effort making the Breakers team, that you are apart of, the best team that it can possibly be.

Sports News
In 2000/2001, BEACH helped form the Eastern Virginia Athletic Conference, which consisted of five small to mid-size Christian schools and BEACH Homeschool Sports.
On December 30, 2005, in the middle of our basketball season, EVAC wrote homeschool teams out of their bylaws. We lost 10 potential games for each team in each sport in each season.
For our first 20 years, and still to this date, there are conferences in Tidewater that don't understand the dynamics of homeschooling and the history of homeschool sports. They continue to cast doubt on our policies and our accomplishments and will not consider homeschool teams for membership. We struggle on with the daily challenge of getting enough games for our teams and hope that our TEACH/BEACH Complex will be the beginning of an eventual acceptance of homeschoolers into one or more local conferences. They base their assumptions on our academics which has been proven to be exemplary as per the three articles listed on our home page. The building and the curriculum and the teachers in the building don't make the difference. It is the resolve of the families that make the difference.
We don't expect them to understand this for some time to come. We do, however, appreciate the schools that support us every season with games outside of their conference games. They certainly have no other reason to do so other than good will.
